My path in neuroscience already started during school. As a part of a special school program, I came in contact with neuroscientific research at the Paul-Flechsig-Institut for Brain Research (Leipzig). Here I “translated” scientific findings of the Müller cell (the dominant glia cell of the retina) into a “school friendly” language and took successfully part with this project at “Jugend forscht”. Driven by this experience I deepen by understanding in biology (BSc) and neuroscience (MSc) at the universities of Hamburg and Magdeburg. During my PhD thesis I established a method to investigate cell-type specifically newly synthesized proteins in Drosophila melanogaster at the Dieterich lab (Institute of Toxicology and Pharmacology, OvGU Magdeburg). After taking a break from science for three years working in industry, I decided to go back to science and joined the Albrecht lab. Here I investigate two different projects. In one project I analyze the role of the interleukine IL-11 and in the other project I study the role of NPY in autophagy both in the mouse hippocampus.
